Description

HORN – AMERICAN MILITARY 15″ WITH SPRING CHARGER. THIS IS THE SAME STYLE FLASK SHOWN IN REILLY’S BOOK ON POWDER FLASKS, PAGE 364/ #872. IT IS THE LAST OF THE RIFLEMAN’S FLASKS BEFORE ADOPTION OF THE FIRST METAL (PUBLIC PROPERTY) FLASKS CA 1827. MILITARY POWDER FLASKS WERE NOT ONLY INTENDED FOR THE ARMY RIFLEMEN BUT ALSO MILITA UNITS IF NEEDED (REILLY/PG 358). NOTE THAT REILLY THOUGHT HIS FLASK HAD A REPLACED BASE. BUT THIS IS THE SECOND FLASK LIKE THIS I HAVE OWNED AND ALL HAD THE TURNED DECORATIVE EDGES ON THE BASE, SO THEY WERE MADE THIS WAY. THE SPOUT HAS A “70” ON THE CARRY RING MOUNT, WHICH MAY BE AN ASSEMBLY NUMBER WITH OTHERS NUMBERS HIDDEN WHEN PUT TOGETHER. THEY WERE ALL HAND MADE SO IT MAKES SENSE. THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN USED WITH THE 1803/1817 AND STATE CONTRACT RIFLES.
