THEY WERE PART OF THE SECOND BATTALION OF WADSWORTH BRIGADE RAISED IN JUNE OF 1776 TO REINFORCE WASHINGTON AT NEW YORK. PARTICIPATED IN THE BATTLE OF LONG ISLAND, RETREAT TO NEW YORK AND NEW YORK CITY, ALSO AT WHITE PLAINS, THEIR TIME EXPIRING DECEMBER 25, 1776. HE THEN SHOWS UP ON THE ROSTER FOR THE 3RD REGIMENT OF THE CONNECTICUT LINE AS A PRIVATE IN APRIL OF 1777, CAP. FEB 14, 1778, SERJT. MARCH 1, 1778, PROM. ENSIGN APRIL 25, 1780, CONTINUED SERVICE UNTIL 1781. COPIES OF THIS INFO COMES WITH IT. ANOTHER NAME APPEARS IN THE BOOK AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER “MOSES GRAY HIS HAND AND PEN 1764”. SMITH’S NAME APPEARS TWICE, ONCE ON SAME PAGE AS GRAY’S AND ON ANOTHER PAGE IN THE BOOK). AMAZING IT SURVIVED, GOOD CONDITION SHOWING CARRY AND USE.
