MASK – AMERICAN TRAINING (ASBR): THE MASK IS  JUST SOFT FABRIC WITHOUT THE RUBBERIZED INNER COATING, RUBBER EXHALE BLADDER IS MISSING (MADE WITHOUT THE METAL GUARD), HOSE IS SEMI-SOFT. MASK LIGHTLY STAMPED FOR TRAINING ONLY (WORN FROM USE) AS WELL AS THE INNER BAG FLAP, WHICH IS MARKED “SIMMONS/ 1917”.  A FEW THOUSAND OF THESE TRAINING MASKS WERE MADE IN 1917 ON THE BRITISH PATTERN (BSBR) PENDING FARTHER RESEARCH TO MAKE A USABLE MASK. IT HAS A BLACK CANNISTER TO HOLD MORE CHARCOAL
(AMERICAN CHARCOAL THAT WAS NOT CONSIDERED AS GOOD AS THE BRITISH STUFF SO IT WAS MADE LARGER). THE FIRST 25,000 MASKS MADE FOR USE WERE FOUND FAULTY (FABRIC FACE PIECES) AND ADDED INTO THE “TRAINING” INVENTORY FOR USE BETWEEN JULY AND OCTOBER 1917. THE STORY OF THESE MASKS IS INCLUDED WITH IT. THIS WOULD BE GOOD FOR A MANNEQUIN AS THE MASK IS SOFT.
