Description

UNIFORM – USMC DRESS BLUES, TUNIC & TROUSERS: TUNIC MARKINGS ARE TOO FAINT TO READ DATES BUT IS PROBABLY 1927-1928 – SAME AS IN TROUSERS AND BOTH HAVE SAME NAMES IN THEM, WITH CORPORAL CHEVRONS, NO COLLAR INSIGNIA (WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SMALL EGA – HOLES ARE THERE), EXC SHOWING LIGHT WEAR. TROUSERS ARE 1927-1928 DATED, ALSO EXC SHOWING LIGHT WEAR. THIS WAS A REISSUED SET AS IT HAS IN THE COLLAR ON THE COAT SLEEVE AND TROUSER WAIST BAND “R.F.CATLYN/ C7986-5” AND “KOESSEL/ K1481-1” W/A FEW OTHER NUMBER MARKINGS. SMALL SIZE. THE FIRST OWNER (CATLYN – 1918-1970) ENLISTED IN 1936 AND SERVED 22 YEARS. DURING WWII HE SERVED AS SERGEANT, PLATOON SEREGANT AND GUNNERY SERGEANT IN VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF THE 2ND MARINE DIVISION, MOST NOTABLY THE 2ND TANK BATLN. SECOND OWNER (KOESSEL – 1912-1985) WORE IT CIRCA 1944-45 WHILE SERVING AS A CORPORAL WITH BARRACKS DETACHMENT, NAVY YARD, MARE ISLAND, CA.. AMAZING HOW THESE UNIFROMS GET AROUND.
