Description

TUNIC – M1914 ENLISTED ISSUE (NO LOWER POCKETS ADDED IN 1917) USMC KHAKI COTTON TROPICAL WITH PLEATED UPPER POCKETS, POINTED CUFFS, SMALL STAND COLLAR AND EARLY BLACKENED BRONZE “DOMED”(USED UP TO ABOUT 1917) USMC BUTTONS. EXTERIOR IS ALMOST WHITE FROM SUN BUT IT IS IN EXC CONDITION. NOT COMMONLY KNOWN
– MARINES WOULD LAY THEIR KHAKI UNIFORMS IN THE SUN TO BLEACH THEM ALMOST WHITE TO BE DIFFERENT FROM ARMY TUNICS. THE INTERIOR IS STILL KHAKI SO WE KNOW IT WAS NOT FROM LAUNDERING. IN WWI AN INQUIRY WAS MADE AS TO WHY THE MARINE KHAKI LEGGINGS DID NOT HOLD THEIR TAN COLOR! IT WAS BECAUSE THEY WERE PURPOSELY BLEACHED WHITE – ANSWER WAS THEY WANTED THE “VET” LOOK. TRACES OF WHERE THE COLLAR DEVICES WERE MOUNTED. TWO NAMES INSIDE –
“L.P. POIST” AND “F.M.HOLMES”. CLASSIC RE-ISSUED TUNIC.
