BANCROFT”, GOOD-VG CONDITION SHOWING HONEST WEAR/USE, TWO SMALL AGE TEARS UNDER ONE ARMPIT (DOES NOT SHOW ON A MANNEQUIN), SIZE 37; BLUE WOOL TROUSERS WITH 1-1/2″ WHITE STRIPE (ALL OFFICERS) WITH A FEW MOTH SPOTS, SIZE ABOUT 31, UNMARKED, VG; M95 CAP WITH BULLION OFFICER EAGLE AND BULLION CHINSTRAP, SIZE 7-14, SWEATBAND MISSING, BLACK SILK INTERIOR,VG WITH A LITTLE MOTHING. SET SHOWS LONG USE AND WEAR. BANCROFT HAD A LONG DISTINGUISHED CARRIER IN THE 5TH MASSACHUSETTS VOL. MILITIA(ENLISTED IN 1875, BECOMING COLONEL IN 1883 AT AGE 26). ON JULY 30, 1897 HE WAS COMMISSIONED BRIGADIER-GENERAL COMMANDING THE 2ND BRIGADE OF THE M.V.M.. HE WAS ON THE MILITARY ADVISOR BOARD (TO ASSIST THE GOVERNOR) DURING THE SPAN-AM WAR BUT WAS LATER COMMISSIONED BY THE PRESIDENT A BRIGADIER-GENERAL IN COMMAND OF THE 2ND BRIGADE, 2ND DIVISION, 7TH CORPS U.S.V., MAY 27, 1898, BUT RESIGNED THE COMMISSION ON AUGUST 7, 1898, RETURNING TO MILITIA SERVICE. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE STATE LEGISLATURE FOR 3 YEARS AND 4 YEARS AS MAYOR OF CAMBRIDGE.HE WAS INVOLVED IN ANY MORE ORGANIZATIONS
