MEDALLION – EX WAR DOG MUSEUM IN PARAMUS, N.J.: THESE COMMEMORATIVE MEDALLIONS ARE EXREMELY RARE AND REPRESENT A LIFETIME OF COLLECTING WAR DOG MATERIAL. THE USE OF DOGS WITH MEDICS STARTED IN 1914. THESE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT THE OWNER FOUND IN 30 YEARS OF COLLECTING. THE SIXTH OF THE COLLECTION IS GERMAN IN BRONZE (WAS GOLD PLATED – 50% REMAINS), 1-1/2″ DIAMETER. OBVERSE (FRONT) HAS IN HIGH RELIEF A WAR DOG WITH RED CROSS CLLAR AND MEDALLION AROUND NECK WITH “IM DIENTSE DES WELTKRIEGS 1914”, MARKED “GOETZ” BELOW DOG. REVERSE (BACK) IS SAME SCENE FOUND ON GR15066 OF TWO SOLDIERS CARRYING A THIRD BETWEEN THEM WITH DOG AT THEIR SIDE. IN SMALL PANEL IS “ERST MALIGE VERWEN DVNG DER SANITATS HVNDE”. THIS ONE COMES IN THE ORIGINAL CASE (VERY RARE – THE ONLY BOXED ONE HE EVER FOUND). VG-EXC(FOR GOLD WEAR ONLY).
