Description

HORN, BRITISH 12″ RIFLEMAN WITH RW TRIPLE CENTER AND DOUBLE END DECORATIVE TURNINGS, WITH A BOTH A “WD/BROAD ARROW” AND VERY EARLIER BROAD-ARROW MARKINGS. THIS IS A VERY OLD HORN THAT SAW LONG USE OUTDOORS, AGED WHITE FROM THE SUN WITH THE EXTERIOR WELL WORN AND POLISHED FROM HANDLING. IT IS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR RIFLEMEN. IT WAS FIRST MARKED IN THE PRE-1800 PERIOD FOR ISSUE (POSSIBLY REVOLUTIONARY WAR PERIOD), THEN RETURNED TO STORE AFTER 1854, MISSING THE PERIOD OF THE “BO/BROAD-ARROW” MARKING PERIOD (1790-S TO 1854). IT MOST LIKELY SAW CONTINUED USE IN A RIFLE CORPS IN THE 18TH CENTURY AND EARLY 19TH CENTURY BAKER RIFLE PERIOD UNTIL RETURNED TO STORES. IT SHOWS HOW LONG THESE HORNS WERE KEPT IN INVENTORY TO BE ISSUED WITH PERCUSSION RIFLES. EXC
