Description

HORN – BRITISH PRIMING: THESE SMALL HORNS (11″) SAW DUAL PURPOSE BOTH FOR RIFLEMEN AND CANNON PRIMING. IN THE REV WAR THEY WERE USED WITH THE FERGUSON AND PATTERN 76 RIFLES AND LATER THE BAKER RIFLE OF 1799 PERIOD. THIS ONE CARRIES THE “BROAD- ARROW” USED FROM THE FRENCH & INDIAN WAR (THE BRITISH USED SOME RIFLES IN THAT WAR) TO THE LATE 1790’S WHEN THE “BO/BROAD-ARROW” WAS ADOPTED. IT WAS USED UNTIL 1854 UNTIL THE “WD/BROAD-ARROW” WAS ADOPTED. THIS HORN SAW LONG 18TH CENTURY SERVICE AND EARLY 19TH CENTURY SERVICE, COMING BACK INTO STORES AFTER 1854 (MISSING THE PERIOD OF THE “BO/BROAD-ARROW” MARKING). EVERY TIME THEY WERE TURNED BACK INTO STORES THEY WERE INSPECTED AND REMARKED FOR SERVICE WITH THE APPROPRIATE MARKING OF THAT PERIOD. EXC WITH NICE AGE PATINA.
