IT SERVED AS BOTH A SLEEVE EMBLEM (RNAS – PAIRS AT FIRST) AND A PILOT BADGE (RNAS AND ROYAL MARINE USE). NO EXPLANATION IS GIVEN FOR THE CROWN ON THE BADGE. ON PAGE 190, GB-PF, AN IDENTICAL “EAGLE” ONLY WAS ALSO WORN BY “PATHFINDER” AIRCRAFT WHO FLEW AHEAD OF THE BOMBER FORMATION TO MARK THE TARGETS FOR THOSE WHO FOLLOWED.
